This computer has served me well.

As it should, it is a server.

I run Windows XP Pro on it because I don't know / care to know Linux and don't want use Windows 2003 Server.

My silly little life on a timeline:

- 2008 -

November:

I have complied with the request to remove the company name, and since I no longer work for the company who's name shall not be mentioned  ( oh Jebus, did I just make a Harry Potter quote? I hope not... ) I have restored my content to usual. Officially I was let go for a multitude of reasons, including failure to perform. Hard to meet your goals when the system reporting all that information is highly flawed. Whatever, I'll find a new job that doesn't require I work 60 hours a week and only pays me for 40. Good riddance.

October:

Well, I've been contacted by our corporate security department at work - apparently it's a terrible thing to have a link to XXX Vitamin Water on my page under the parody of it's deliciousness as being crack cocaine. I spent an entire day being taxied around to TAKE A DRUG TEST FOR CRACK COCAINE! The text never happened, by the way, as it was deemed unnecessary by our HR department - after the taxi company couldn't find the clinic, and when they did find it, it was too late. I have complied with the gentlemen's request to remove the company name from my page ( it's no where on here any more! ) Please also note the disclaimer that has always been on the home page of this site... guess he missed that one!

September:

Not much happened. Just worked my ass off and played Too Human a lot. Money is tighter that usual.

Hurricane Ike sucked serious ass, I spent the night of the storm, as well as the night afterwards out in the rain keeping the storm drain clear so my apartment wouldn't flood. Lost power for a week. I spent much of my time up at work since they had air conditioning, and was cudo'd many times by my superiors for the work and help I put in to getting us back on our feet. My folks had some downed trees and roofing damage, but that was the worst of the effects on my life - so I'd say we made it through pretty well.

August:

I've spent a lot of time cleaning up my MP3 library... trying to get that " root / genre / artist / year - album / tracks " structure down for 16,000 songs isn't as quick and simple as I'd hoped it be. I've made pretty good progress though.

Brad, my first team leader from my agent days in Yahoo!, left The Verge to go work with Yahoo! up in Oregon. While I wish him the best, I'm pissed that he's leaving... this job was already bad enough, and now he's gone... it's going to go to hell in a handbasket quickly - or so EVERYONE is saying. Of course this mentality is only going to make it more of a reality... I admit I've done nothing to counter-act it. The place really is falling apart at the seams. Since January we've lost 18 team leaders. Some were fired, most quit to get a job that pays better actually pays worth it's time. 18 managers from a new-year figure of 42. No one really wants to replace them either - be it agents to promote, or upper management to have more front-line troops. They just expect us to double our work loads and still make everything happen. I can't wait to find a new job elsewhere.

On a soul-crushing side note - the 'she' from earlier in the year... the shroud of mystery was finally lifted. Turns out she discovered she was pregnant ( from her shit-ass loser ex - I was never that lucky ), and decided to go back to him. Her way of dealing with this was to hide it from everyone, including friends and family, until it was not possible to hide any longer. While I'm really quite pissed about this, I have to admit that this is a significant character flaw. I keep telling myself that this is a good thing, that her and I had not become serious, because this is a very un-admirable trait, one I doubt I could live with. Honesty and sincerity are far too important to me.

Chances are pretty good that I'll start working at HostGator fairly soon, and move in with William and Erin. They just bought a repo, and I could seriously use the financial relief from having the shared expenses of reliable roommates.

July:

Verizon said no. I thought my application and interview went well, but after a little digging by some friends of mine who are already there, turns out they have a very strict policy on their 'two years call center experience' requirement. I guess I'll be at The Verge until January 3rd, 2009. Damnit.

Lance moved out though, it's nice to have my place back to myself. I missed getting to watch my TV, and having food in my kitchen that was there the last time I made something. While Lance is a good friend and Samantha isn't a bad person... christ they ate a lot of food.

June:

Lance finally got a job, working with Verizon. Even though I'm having to drive him down there on a semi-regular basis, it's good that he's getting paychecks so he can start paying me back for food and rent. I never wanted to run a hostel out of my apartment. I honestly didn't think he'd be here for more than a month or two... guess I was wrong. Going to apply at Verizon myself to see if I can get in the door there... I know a couple of people there, and they rave about it.

My family took their trip to Minnesota this year, and left Toby behind for me to watch. Take this from my experience: a 90 lbs dog in an 800 sq/ft apartment isn't really that great an idea. He behaved himself wonderfully, but cooping him up in this little place drove him crazy. Hell, the kitchen at my folks' place is bigger than my apartment.

May:

Oh... fuck... me... they canned the role I had at The Verge, that of the Administrative Team Leader, and now I'm in good ol' production. Three weeks of agent-training, then I get a team of newbies and it's off to teach people how to do a job that I don't know how to do. I don't know, and probably more importantly, don't care about how to take a call for Sprint / Nextel. I enjoyed my old role, and did it very well. After our department took a 50% staffing hit last month  we just couldn't keep up with the workload... senior management decided that it'd be a better idea to push us out to have teams instead of hiring on two new TL's to complete our regiment. I smell trouble brewing, as we were a significant financial contributor... saved the company hundred of thousands a month with the work we did.

Other than that... nothing happened. Work, sleep, repeat.

April:

Well, Lance got his ass canned... turns out The Verge will notice you're late when you're six hours late for every shift you have, almost every day.

Went to go visit my buddy Kyle out in Killeen... that bastard has it all now. Loving ( beautiful ) wife, solid career ( he's a 2nd LT with the Army ), and now a house. Not an apartment, a fuckin' house. I'm happy for him, even though my trip mainly just reminded me how much better I could be doing with my life.

Other than that... a whole lot of nothing. Working my ass off and relaxing when I can.

March:

So I've started playing ogame, and it's consuming so very much of my time. It's great stuff though, if not highly frustrating. Kinda like a very slow version of EVE in my eyes, and I don't know why I enjoy it so much. If you get in to it, I'm at 2:7:8 in uni2.

I've discovered that I LOVE crack-cocaine. My supplier is global, too!

Sam ended up just moving in to my apartment to stay with Lance, which is fine by me... one more person to sub-let my couch out to.

I decided it was time to do a little upgrading on the ol' home theater, so I spent my stimulus check to pick up a Yamaha 7.1 amplifier and 5.1 surround set to compliment it. In conjunction with my existing speak equipment, I now have two full-range towers, five low-profile satellite speakers to wrap around the room, and an additional 10" subwoofer to go behind my chair ( keeps the volume down so my neighbor won't bitch, while giving me the bass I enjoy ). Must say I'm very happy with my decision here. Environmental audio make an XBox360 and HD programming freakin' nice.

February:

Well.. she suddenly cut all contact with me... virtually impossible to get ahold of her and I can't figure out why. Guess I'm not supposed to know. Other than that... Lance is still living with me. It's really a heartbreaking story which I don't think he really wants shared. Lets just say it's bad enough that I'm happy to open my couch to him for a month or two so he can get his finances in order and get his life back on track. His girl Samantha keeps coming over - from San Antonio. She's a bit on the slightly-more-than-crazy side, but definitely keeps things interesting.

All-in-all, I'd say times are good, if not just busy working my ass off. The mother-fuckers at The Verge corporate decided that since profits were in the crapper, that no one in a salaried role ( ie: me ) earns a raise this year. At all. So... the money I had already calculated as having to afford my car note is not going to be there. Shit.

January:

End of January: To the one person who has donated to my new car fund, your $13.37 helped and brought a smile to my face. Incase you missed the bump, I've bought this for myself! On the unhappy side of things, even though I'm crazy for her and she says the same about me... I fear she may not be committed to anything at this point, which hurts. I know life can be a stressful thing and it prevents us from doing as we please all the time... I just really hope that something happens soon to change my mind that it's not working, and soon. I fear I may grow impatient, or worse yet annoyed by flakiness.

Mid January - Karma is real. It must be. My van is stolen with thousands of personal gear inside it, but shortly there after I find out... she likes me, too. I feel like I'm in Jr. High again, all giddy over a mutual crush, but damn it feels good to feel good again!

Happy new year, we stole your van! That's right, some motherfucker ( or motherfuckress ) stole my ten-year-old minivan. My guess is because it is worth so very much. Oh wait, it was ten years old and breaking down. Maybe it's because you can fit a whole family of immigrants in it, I donno. All speculation aside, I lost all of my CD's ( many complete discographies ), and a carton of smokes, several items of sentimental value, and other various little things... tallying up to approximately $3500. Probably more than the van was worth. I can't begin to understand how a car thief selects his targets... any of the cars near mine were a) worth more, b) had more valuable stuff in them, and c) were in better condition. I'm mainly pissed off about the sentimental things in my van, which fortunately were not too many in number. I have, however,  been reamed by my insurance company - Allstate isn't going to do a damn thing about it. I've started a 'Help Jon get a New Car' fund, please donate if you can! [link]

I have decided that the government should begin sterilizing people at birth. This will be a reversible process, in which the antidote is only administered after a) reaching the age of 18, and b) proving via essay that you have something to contribute to the human gene pool. This decision is based solely on the fact that my knowledge, patience, and sanity must compete on a daily basis with what can only be described as the utter lack of ability to learn, listen, and comprehend. Too many times have I sat and repeated a three-step process over and over again as the idiot I talk at ( not to, to would imply they are listening ) fails to comprehend the most basic commands I can convey. Please understand I am not heartless, but I understand the difference between ignorance and insolence, and too many people fall into the latter category.

I pride myself in my computers and their 'passive modifications' in the software. 'start' becomes ' Jon ' and changing 'Professional' to 'Illegal Edition' are just ways that I like to modify, but not completely change the essence of these machines. I recommend Norton 2006, Trillian 3 Pro, Kazaa Lite / Shareaza, POW!, Spybot S&D, Alcohol 120%, Winamp 5 and 2.91, and Nero 7 over all their respective competitors. If you don't like my recommendations, do what you want, I honestly don't care. After all, the best things in life are free - and if you don't know Linux and all it's great open-source software, they're pirating for the Windows platforms. Horray pirating! If you want good files from fun places, learn to use and love newsgroups. I have.

Streaming Ludicrosity Details:

It's a shoutcast stream, forced to 128kb/s stereo quality.

It only allows 10 users at once. One of those is reserved for me.

As of November 2007, it is broadcasting 90Gb of MP3's, across all genres and flavors of music, completely on random.

This means almost ANYTHING could come up. The only music I have not collected is twang country and fat-lady opera. Everything else is fair game.

I have a lot of industrial, lounge, ambient, and techno. You can expect a lot from these categories. View a list of what might happen here.

It's almost guaranteed to be explicit. A close second bet is that it will do one of two things:

1) Play something annoying.
2) Be totally awesome.
